Petting Zoo

Fort Rickey Children's Discovery Zoo
2 years and 7 months old

I did realize afterwards that this was an Alpaca not a Llama ... oops :)

Notice in the clip below how she insists on staying in the balls, until I mention it's lunchtime, then she can't get out of there quick enough.

Kiddie Pool

2 years and 6 months old
Katelyn had a great time cooling off in her pool and playing tee ball in the backyard. We are in the early stages of potty training so we are trying to stay close to home! We started on Friday and only had 1 accident in three days (which was my fault, I didn't remind her and it had been awhile). She is wearing big girl underwear (Dora and Princess) during the day and she is doing a great job, better than I could have ever anticipated!

Playground pics of Katelyn

Lions and Tigers and Bears.....

2 years and 4 months old

We took Kateyn to the Zoo on Saturday and had a wonderful time. We saw all the animals and then had a nice lunch outside. Katelyn loved the elephant, penguins, birds and the giant turtles. She was really excited about seeing the bears and kept asking when we would see them. Of course when we did get there they were all curled up in a ball sleeping in the corner. So she just saw a pile of brown fluff...oh well.

First Haircut

So we took Katelyn to Snip-its for her first "real" haircut. The place is geared for kids (as you can tell by the bright colors and toys everywhere, not to mention each chair has a TV monitor which plays cartoons!) They saved a lock of her hair and she got a prize from the "prize machine" for doing such a great job.

She sat relatively still the whole time (as still as a 2 year old can sit) although she did have a death grip on my hand.

The Luckiest Little Girl

Katelyn is so lucky to have two sets of such wonderful Grandparents who love and adore her so much!

Katelyn in South Carolina

We decided during our Feb. break to drive down to South Carolina to visit Grandma Lou and Grandpa Ken. Here are some pictures from our visit.

By the way she did absolutely amazing the entire trip. This includes the entire car ride down and back, the two nights at the hotel, the two nights at Grandma and Grandpa's house and eating out at restaurants. We could not have asked for a more perfect trip!

Mommy, Daddy and Katelyn:

Katelyn and Grandma Lou

We decided to take Katelyn to a nearby playground to run around, but the weather was actually a bit chilly so we didn't stay too long, but she got alot of fun in anyway.

Driving already?

Bouncing away....
After all that fun and excitement she was actually a bit tired...

She perked up for dinner...

Katelyn was most fond of Misty, their dog, she loved chasing Misty around the house.
It was so wonderful that Katelyn could spend some time with her grandparents in SC and she continues to talk about her trip and all the fun she had!

Playing in the Snow

We had a beautiful day today! It was sunny and warm (well as warm as it can get in here in the middle of January :) So Katelyn got to play outside in the snow.

Big Girl Bed

Yesterday Katelyn reached a new "milestone" ... the ability to climb out of the crib (it's like a new superhero power).

Now when I say climb, I mean get partially over the crib and then DROP. I found this out yesterday after a non-existant nap. She was in her crib not sleeping but quietly playing and all was good (I thought) and then I heard a loud thud...and I instantly knew what had happened. So I ran in her room and she was crying. She evidently landed face first. Luckily aside from a little sore nose and a shaken up kid...she was OK.

Well this meant transition to a toddler bed. So Todd took the side off the crib and converted it to her new toddler bed. My anxiety level rose at that exact moment.

The rest of the afternoon and early evening she was playing in her room, hopping on and off her new bed, bringing toys in, she was having a grand time and loved the ability to get in and out all by herself. (little Miss independent)

Then her bedtime was approaching and I had already cleaned out almost everything in her room on her level and moved it up high or out of the room. I had clear visions of her getting into everything and was very anxious about her safety out of the crib. (even though I had completely "Katelyn proofed the room"...I was like a new mother again.

So then bedtime was here a little later than usual and we did all the normal routines book, teeth, say night night to everyone, touch the butterflies on her wall, hugs, kisses and at 7:30 I left her room.

I watch Super Nanny so I knew what I was in store for. She would scream, cry, get out of bed, bang on the door, or just be up all night playing on the floor or with books ...it would just be a plain nightmare. So as I shut the door I heard Mommy! and I knew it was starting a loooong night. So of course being nervous about her in her room with all that freedom I sat outside her door to see what would happen. She started to cry and I waited...then 2 minutes later at exactly 7:32 the most unimaginable thing happened there was .... silence....she had fallen asleep and stayed asleep...in her new big girl bed.

I was in a state of shock for several minutes and then I just felt so proud of her.

My little girl is growing up.
